While we navigate the challenges we now face due to the COVID-19 pandemic, your wellbeing is more important today than ever before. Below are a few practical suggestions to stay well—physically—this summer.
Physical Wellbeing Tips
1. Focus on fitness at home.
It’s hard to get the physical activity you may be used to when you’re more confined and your typical routine is gone. If you haven’t yet considered it, try out the many web-based exercise programs, yoga, and/or strength training sessions to take the place of your usual exercise routine. If you’re working from home, change positions during the day, take your conference calls while standing, and walk around the house during your virtual check-ins with colleagues.
2. Get outside and get active (safely).
It’s important to continue to enjoy the outdoors, get fresh air, and sunlight. In addition to being a proven mood enhancer, the sun causes your body to produce vitamin D—which keeps your bones healthy. That’s because the so-called "sunshine vitamin" helps the body absorb calcium, which is essential for bone health. While getting fresh air and sunlight, be sure to be safe. Don’t forget to apply sunscreen, bug repellent, and drink lots of water—and maintain a safe distance from others.
3. Eat right.
Good nutrition and a balanced diet are essential to good health—it’s not about being too strict or depriving yourself of the foods you love. Instead, it’s about finding the right balance, being sensible, and even mindful with your snacking.
Use our very own Snacking tips to be in and enjoy the moment.
4. Get your rest.
Getting the right amount of sleep (i.e., seven to eight hours per night) can help you stay healthy and avoid illness. Some health experts even recommend avoiding bright screens during the hours before bedtime.
5. Access the right care at the right time—especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Take advantage of virtual visits for non-emergency care, but don’t hesitate to go to the ER if you’re facing an emergency or serious health concern. You may even want to catch up on routine dental services that you’ve postponed due to COVID-19—new guidance is now available from ABC Dental.
Headed to your work location?
If you’re working on-site at our plants or on the frontlines, safety is already a critical component of your workday. Continue to follow the safety rules and regulations for your location to help protect your health and the health of those around you. And, as we continue down the path of reaching our “new normal” way of working, look to our ABC framework for guidance.
