As 2020 comes to a close, here are a few year-end reminders.
Make full use of your remaining 2020 medical, dental, and vision benefits
- Take care of any last medical, dental, and/or vision care appointments before December 31, 2020. Remember, your annual deductibles, out-of-pocket maximums, and benefit limits will reset on January 1, 2021.
- Review annual benefit maximums for your dental coverage and vision allowances. If you need dental services or eyewear, use up any remaining dollars before your coverage resets on January 1, 2021.
Continue to access care virtually through telemedicine
With telemedicine, certain types of care are available and you don’t need to go to an office setting. Medicine works a lot like seeing your doctor in person, except that you use your smartphone or computer to connect with in-network doctors. In lieu of an in-person visit, the doctor can discuss your health care concerns and treatment options virtually; and can even prescribe certain medications after your virtual visit. Which telemedicine provider you use depends on your coverage option’s carrier.

Looking ahead to 2021
In November, you received a 2021 Benefits Confirmation Statement at your home address. Your Confirmation Statement summarizes the coverages—including those that you elected during the 2021 Annual Enrollment (or defaulted to, if you didn’t actively enroll or waive coverage)—that will take effect on January 1, 2021.
Your Confirmation Statement also lists each coverage’s per-pay-period cost, your dependents whom you’re covering, as well as your primary or contingent beneficiary for certain coverages. Please contact the ABC Benefits Center if you have any questions about your 2021 coverages.
Depending on the coverage and carrier options you were enrolled in for 2020, and those you’re enrolled in for 2021, you may or may not need a new 2021 medical ID card. You’ll only receive a new ID card if, for 2021, you are:
- Changing coverage options (even if you’re staying with the same carrier);
- Changing carriers (even if you’re staying with the same coverage option); or
- Staying with the same carrier, but going from a broad to a select network or from a select to a broad network.
For more details, review the 2021 ID Card Flyer.
